Comment pourrions-nous utiliser les nouvelles technologies comme moyen de sensibilisation?

How do you get thousands of people talking about and, more importantly, doing something for the health of Lake Champlain?

Voices for the Lake
- in development at ECHO* since 2005 - is now launching a series of community-driven Voices for the Lake Brainstorming Forums, to help set the course for engaging the public through new Internet technologies.

*ECHO at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain (One College Street, Burlington, Vermont) educates and delights people about the Ecology, Culture, History, and Opportunities for stewardship of the Lake Champlain Basin.

Three Brainstorming Forums

Please RSVP via email

  • Monday, November 12th @ ECHO
  • Saturday, November 17th @ Champlain College's Hauke Family Center

What's the topic?

Voices is focusing not on the Lake stewardship message, but on the vehicle to get that message out and engage the public. Using new social technologies to inspire people to make personal behavior changes that will positively affect Lake Champlain is the goal, but the discussion about those potential methods are what this Wiki is all about. So put up a page on your idea, no matter how far-fetched they may seem and we'll see where the discussion takes us.

What will the Brainstorming Forums be like?

  • To start the discussion, each Brainstorming Forum will begin with a New Technology Expo where some of our partners will demostrate and exhibit some of the latest ways for people to interact through the Internet, cellphones, PDAs, and the like.
  • After a brief introduction and moving into discussion groups, each person will write down their ideas on how to get the public to change their behavior through social technologies
  • In turn, each person will share their ideas with their group and then the group will discuss all of them. A group scribe will enter those ideas and their subsequent alterations into this Wiki that the group will be able to view and review as the discussion moves along.
  • The New Technology Expo exhibitors will remain to allow groups to ask questions or get further information as the discussions warrant. A buffet lunch will be available during this time period so individuals can eat when their group discussion allows it
  • Each group will prioritize their ideas and then will bring them to the entire group for their consideration
  • All of the participants will hear about and discuss each group's ideas (being actively edited in this Wiki and displayed for all to see)
  • Everyone will finally vote on these ideas to prioritize them for further action
  • A social to follow the vote while the Wiki shares the day's efforts with any and all

Who will be there?

Individuals representing Vermont, Quebec and New York, from volunteer and professional advocacy groups, faith-based organizations, school teachers, farmers, government officials, students, college professors, economic leaders, business owners, lakefront residents, and others passionate about the Lake. And you, if you care about Lake Champlain and are likely connected to it in some way... recreation, direct economics, indirect livelihood, drinking water, property, etc. Your ideas are important and who better to share them with a like-minded, equally passionate group than you?
